I don't know why I missed two weeks ago. I missed this week's because I was busy on the podcast. So I am going to post up the reviews until today. So 2 and a half weeks worth of reviews going up.
We have 5 reviews over the last two and a half weeks. The animes reviewed are The Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok, M.D. Geist: Most Dangerous Soldier, Bleach: Season #4 (The Bount Arc), Afro Samurai: Resurrection, and M.D. Geist: Death Force. The writers were Soubi (TMDLR), Colme (both M.D. Geist and Bleach #4), and Ventus (Afro Samurai:Resurrection). Here are the samples.

The Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok by Soubi

Quote:
Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok is the type of anime often and unfortunately lost to the multitudes. With a decidedly cartoon-esque feel it isn’t the most serious of anime, though as the story progresses and the characters are explored it could easily catch anyone’s attention. The sort of anime that doesn’t stick out, if I hadn’t have accidentally clicked on it's wikipedia page I wouldn’t have touched it, however once you begin it isn't as easy to stop watching it. The anime somehow creating a funny yet serious set of characters with a beautiful array of twists and a gripping plot-line. Continue Reading...

M.D. Geist: Most Dangerous Soldier by Colme
Quote:
The accessability of anime served to be among the greatest of the industries troubles in a world before the advent of the internet. In this era international fans were left reliant on the handful of titles licensed for international distribution and provided to them by the few and sparse companies dealing in anime. The intricacies of this situation giving rise to popularity of some titles who would have otherwise been lost to the echelons time, only salvaged by their being among the select few to cross the ocean a given a fresh and eager audience. This is demonstrated no better than that of the case of the M.D. Geist: Most Dangerous Soldier. Continue Reading....

Bleach Season #4 (The Bount) by Colme
Quote:
Among one of the most detested occurrences found throughout long running series is that of filler. The purpose of filler is typically that of buying time, be it to provide writers time to prepare better scripts or source material time to catch up to that of an adaptation. Bleach often find itself among the latter category, the anime biding it’s time as not to overtake the source manga. The egregious lengths the anime will go to made evident in the fourth season of Bleach, The Bount, an entire filler arch conceived to allow the manga time to catch up. Continue Reading...

Afro Samurai: Resurrection by Ventus
Quote:
Afro must once again take up his sword, this time to save not only himself but also his father. New enemies as well as old friends all making an appearance, changing the way Afro views the role as the Number #1 fighter in the world Continue Reading...
Overall Rating: 7/10
M.D. Geist: Death Force by Colme
Quote:
With the shear amount of fiction that permeates the world it goes without question that some stories may find themselves unfinished. It is a rare phenomenon however that a work be revived, the meek chance progressively deteriorating as time flows onward. It is this that makes the case of M.D. Gesit: Death Force unusual, a sequel separated from that preceding by a decade and one crafted with the backing of popularity not derived of any quality. Hello everyone, as you may or may not have been aware the recent JustDubs Radio thread lead into talks of the production of a Podcast for the site. Without further ado I would like to happily present the Pilot Episode of the JAN Podcast; which while no masterpiece in and of itself will hopefully develop into a solid and commendable production.

The podcast will be available in just sound format shortly, though it is currently available with accompanying visuals at: http://blip.tv/file/4098462

Apparently Blip.tv also makes it available though Itunes, so if your really into it then it may be available there as well.

Classic Track: “Bear Up Bison.” Before Hello Kitty was a cliché, before anime and manga warped your mind and the minds of your children, and before there was J-Pop as we know it, there was Shonen Knife and the 1989 tribute album, Every Band Has A Shonen Knife Who Loves Them. Featuring contributions by “of the Knife” artists like Redd Kross, Sonic Youth, Das Damen, and Pat Smear, the actual Shonen Knife was founded in 1981 by sisters Naoko (guitar) and Atsuko (drums) Yamano, and their friend Michie Nakatani (bass). Back then, Shonen Knife was the only Japanese, all-female pop punk band that mattered; today Naoko is all that’s left of the original Knife and as ever, she’s leader of the band.

Inspired by the first wave—the Ramones and the Buzzcocks—Yamano’s and Shonen Knife’s original music first reached wider US audiences when a cassette of their Burning Farm EP was released by Olympia, Washington’s K Records. Catching the attention of Kurt Cobain among others on the ’80s Amer-indie underground, the rest is J-rock herstory.

Career High: After having their innocent songs about public baths and chocolate recorded by the indie rockers they adored, Shonen Knife were championed by British tastemaker DJ John Peel and toured England with Nirvana in 1991.

Career Low: Critics and fan snobs trashed them with sexist and xenophobic slurs, suggesting women “can’t play,” denoted their “funny accents,” and suggested their outfits and girlish demeanor was “too cute.” Detractors must not have actually put the needle to the record and listened to the trio buzzsawing their way through “Antonio Baka Guy.”

Essential Listening: Pretty Little Baka Guy, their 1986 breakthrough, contains the rock ‘em sock ‘em “Bison”, along with the “Beat on the Brat”-ish “Devil House”, the swinging ’60s-styled “Public Baths”, and the headbanging Japanese language version of “Riding on the Rocket.”

And if you like that: You’ll love their covers of the Carpenters’ “Top of the World”, AC/DC’s “Who Made Who”, and their song for the Power Puff Girls, “Buttercup (I’m a Supergirl).” The Knife is at their best when they are performing Yamano originals about animals (”Elephant Pao Pao”), food (”Flying Jelly Attack”), and girl things (”Twist Barbie”).

Shuffling Off to Buffalo: English language versions of their last two Japanese-only albums, Free Times and fun! fun! fun!, have just been released via Goo Goo Doll Robby Takac’s label, Good Charamel. Shonen Knife (now featuring Ritsuko Taneda on bass and drummer Emi Morimoto) are on a coast-to-coast US tour which ends in Buffalo (where they enjoy a strong following thanks to Buffalo native, Takac) on October 2nd. They also celebrate the release of Live at Mohawk Place (in Buffalo, of course), a performance DVD from 2009. Bear up Bison and Buffalonians, the Knife are back in town.

Quotable: “Shonen Knife is our life’s work. So we shall do it as long as we live.” – Naoko Yamano.

Watch the Action Then: “Redd Kross”

And Now: “Supergroup”

In January, the Brothers Brick website announced that the theme for this year's collaborative display for BrickCon 2010 — an unofficial Lego-centric event taking place in Seattle from September 30 to October 3 — would be "Big in Japan." Since then, fans have submitted numerous photos of Japan-inspired Lego creations to the group's photo stream on the Flickr website.

Among these submissions are many representations of Studio Ghibli works, including Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Nausicaa, Spirited Away, and Laputa: Castle in the Sky, as well as a Lego bust of Hayao Miyazaki himself. A Lego form of Go Nagai's Mazinger Z super robot and Akira's Tetsuo and his motorcycle had also been made, as well as Godzilla and representations of Japanese buildings and historical figures.
